Hyderabad: With summer showers hitting Greater Hyderabad, citizens, who have been waiting for three to four days to get tankers, are heaving a sigh of relief. They are now receiving tanker the day it is booked.
“The few spells of rain has led to a decrease in tanker bookings in Greater Hyderabad, allowing us to reduce tanker delivery timings,” Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) officials told TOI.
Exclusive data on tankers’ delivery has been accessed by TOI.
For instance, 71 of 89 filling stations are delivering tankers the same day. The filling stations at Shaikpet, Asifnagar, Narayanguda, Erragadda, Bharat Nagar, Kothapet, Shapoornagar, Budvel, Sahebnagar, Bachupally, and Vanasthalipuram in Greater Hyderabad were delivering the tankers the same day.
On an average, the number of bookings has decreased from over 8,000 to 5,000 per day for the past week. “This is a drastic decrease compared with the tanker booking trends in March and April,” HMWS&SB director ( Revenue) VL Praveen Kumar told TOI.
Regarding the tanker fleet, the water board had initially pressed into service 613 tankers in March, and now, the number increased to 858 vehicles. Also, the number of trips each tanker makes has increased from eight to 24 trips in a 24-hour period, both day and night shifts, the official added.
Panic bookings have also decreased due to the recent showers . However, in certain areas, mainly northern part of the city (IT corridor), tanker delivery delays have been continuing, spanning between 24 and 36 hours.
“In another few days, we will bring it down to the same day,” a water board official said.
